A moment of spontaneous insanity!

“Ha! Yes I remember the occasion well. I was returning from an early business meeting, with my colleague Lee Boyce, when I suddenly spotted the sunlight breaking through the winter mist. Without any warning, I swerved the car into an opening, ran into a boggy field, crouched down and started shooting. Lee sat speachless! I ventured deeper into the field, in more ways than one, as my feet submerged beneath me, to capture the sunlight and mist as it played magical tricks. At this point, Lee got out of the car and started shooting my moment of spontaneous insanity.”

Sunday 29th January. Snowing, chilling icy winds, oh what a perfect day!

“As a climber, I often steer clear of the normal ascent of mountains, in favour, of a far more isolated challenge. On this occasion, it was no different. My chosen route was populated with one lonely stag, high on the mountain, visible, fleetingly, through the descending blizzard. As my ice-axe and crampons penetrated the solid mass, I stopped  to rest. Breathing heavily, I viewed my surrounds. Wow! what a shot. Precariously poised, I fumbled into my jacket to retrieve my iPhone. Ok, I have three points of contact with the mountain, I’ll get that shot. Mmm, slight problem, chunky winter gloves, I won’t be able to press the camera button. Carefully, I managed to get one glove off with my teeth, unfortunately, within seconds my bare skinned hand started to shake with cold. So, hanging onto the side of the iced mountain, ice-axe and crampons firmly placed, I steadied my frozen hand and clicked”.

We have recently completed the brand creation for Claymore Contracting Services, a UK based organisation. Claymore Contracting Services Limited is a commercial contracting company working directly with clients via recruitment agencies and employment businesses carrying out a broad range of projects and assignment work.

We worked closely with the company’s Managing Director, Ally Mitchell, several months prior to the launch to establish the brand direction and tone of voice which would effectively position themselves in a competitive marketplace.

The Marque is derived from a 3 way interaction between Claymore Contracting Services (the central pivot), the recruitment/employment agencies and the end user (the client). It also reflects the 3 areas of business, Umbrella, CIS and Freelance.

We are currently working on several promotional literature items and we are about to embark on stage 2 of the website which will further integrate the company’s internal system providing clients with additional features and control over their accounts.

We have been featured in the latest book, ‘I Love Type Series, I Love Gill Sans’, published by Viction:ary. The book is dedicated to Eric Gill (1882 – 1940), type designer, book designer, book illustrator, an artist who made elegant woodcuts; a sharp and witty writer. It was Gill, who described himself as a stone carver, and did not think of himself primarily as a type designer. In his autobiography he wrote that in the field of drawing letters, he would never “be anything but an amateur”.

Well, it is testament to his skills that his typefaces are still relevant in today’s visual culture. As this book evidences, Gill Sans especially has become an ubiquitous design tool of the digital age.

Our featured work is the IJ Mellis Cheesemonger project. We designed over 60 self inking stamps, with the name of the cheese, description and country of origin, all set in Gill Sans.

Brand! Vol.4

We have 3 featured projects in the new design book, ‘Brand! Vol 4’, published and distributed by Ooogo Limited. The book questions ‘How to build a successful brand?’ with interviews from 5 of the world’s leading branding agencies. We have recently completed the new brand identity and launched their new website for photographic agency, Simple photography. The website profiles the photographic and film studies of Mark Seager  and Joe Connolly.

We will continue to develop their brand through both digital and print driven campaigns.

Founded in Scotland, 2001, Simple Photography is a creative professional photographic studio, which works on both national and international commissions. They work on a diversity of commissions including – fashion, portraits, advertising, landscapes and music, to name but a few.

We have completed a brochure for a leading UK architectural practice, BMJ Architects. The brochure celebrates the practices 100 years contribution to British architecture and their philosophy to provide innovative buildings that enrich the needs of their users. BMJ Architects have designed many iconic buildings and landmarks throughout the last century, notable in Healthcare, Science and Education.

The brochure is printed 2 spot colours on GFSmith Naturalis Absolute White Matt by Kestrel Press.

This year, for BMJ Architects centenary, we have completed a rebranding of the practice which has included development and implementation of logotype and guidelines, website, exhibition installation and brochure.

We have designed and built a trade microsite to coincide with the product launch of the new limited edition Fiery IRN-BRU from AG Barr. The QR Code driven campaign features a responsive microsite optimised for both desktop and mobile use.
